Bourne Shooting Incident
District Attorney Michael O’Keefe and Chief Dennis Woodside of Bourne Police announced today:
At approximately 2:14 am February 5th Bourne Police Department responded to a report of a car fire in the Clay Pond area of Bourne. Upon their arrival they observed a fully engulfed automobile to be blocking Round House Road. At approximately the same time reports were being relayed to them that 911 calls were coming into the Bourne Police Department regarding shots being fired. The police proceeded past the burning vehicle by foot towards the location where the shots were coming from. They encountered a male suspect who opened fire on the police. One officer was struck in the back by an apparent gunshot round and is being treated at a hospital. The other officers proceeded to a house where they found two adult females, one of whom was deceased and the other still alive. The surviving female victim was transported to a hospital in Rhode Island.
At a different, but nearby location, additional police officers encountered the suspect and placed him under arrest.
The matter remains under investigation by the Bourne Police, the State Police and other specialty services relative to processing the crime scene. Additional units from the Sheriff’s Department and other police agencies also responded and assisted the investigation.
