Jonathan R. Vaughn Press Release
Cape & Islands’ District Attorney Michael O’Keefe announced today that on October 7, 2015, Jonathan R. Vaughn (DOB: 10/24/1986), of Dorchester, was found Guilty by a Barnstable County Superior Court Jury of Assault and Battery on a Person over 60 years old (M.G.L. c. 265 section 13K), Aggravated Assault and Battery with Serious Bodily Injury (M.G.L. c. 165 section 13A (b) (i)), and Assault and Battery on a Police Officer (M.G.L. c. 265 section 13D.) The defendant was sentenced today, October 9, 2015 by the Honorable Judge Robert Rufo, for a period of 6 years of incarceration.
The charges resulted from 2 separate incidents occurring on September 7, 2013 in Hyannis. The first incident happened in the parking area of 390 Bearse’s Way. There the defendant thought that a man had hit his friend’s dog with a car. Enraged, the defendant punched the 66 year old man while the man was seated in the driver’s seat of his truck. This punch broke the bones in the man’s face in three places, leaving him with permanent physical injury. While under arrest at the Barnstable Police Department the defendant punched a police officer in the head. For the assault and battery on the 66 year old man the defendant was sentenced to 4 years to 4 years and a day committed MCI Cedar Junction. For the assault and battery on the police officer the defendant was sentenced to 2 years committed to the Barnstable County Correctional Facility from and after the state prison sentence.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Sharon J. Thibeault and investigated by the Barnstable Police Department.
