Coast Guard Chatham

Cape & Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe and Chatham Chief of Police Mark Pawlina announced that they are investigating the discovery of human remains found in a United States Coast Guard boat that was on display at the Coast Guard Station Chatham.

At about 8:51 p.m. on July 30, Coast Guard personnel notified the Chatham police that they had discovered what appeared to be a decomposed body in a closed compartment of the boat.

Preliminary investigation has not revealed any evidence that foul play was involved. Efforts are underway to make a positive identification of the remains by the Medical Examiner’s office so that next of kin can be notified. The matter remains under active investigation by Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s office, Chatham Police and Coast Guard Investigative Services.
