Lawsuit Regarding Massachusetts Foster Care Dismissed

A federal court judge recently dismissed a class action lawsuit,   Connor B. v. Patrick pdf format of Connor B. v. Patrick docx format of Connor B. v. Patrick , brought by a New York advocacy group alleging that children in the Massachusetts foster care system were being abused and neglected.  U.S. District Court Judge William Young ruled that the plaintiffs had not shown that the constitutional rights of foster care children had been violated.  In his opinion, Judge Young acknowledged real problems in the Massachusetts foster care system but noted that the problems arose largely from “budgetary shortfalls” rather than “management myopia” and stated that as taxpayers, “We are all complicit in this financial failure.”  He emphasized that “this is not a case about statistics but about children - our children.”
