On September 30, 2009, the Children's Law Center of Massachusetts released a report entitled "Until They Die A Natural Death: Youth Sentenced to Life Without Parole in Massachusetts ." Barbara Kaban and Lia Monahan, who wrote the report, spoke with almost all of the 57 individuals serving mandatory life sentences without parole in Massachusetts for crimes committed before their 18 th birthdays. They document the effects that this sentence has on youth and adults and call for an assessment and reformation of the current legislation.
The OCA supports the recommendations in this report and applauds the Children's Law Center of Massachusetts for this and all of their impressive work.
