2012 Excellence Awards Announced

Chief Justice of the Trial Court Robert A. Mulligan and Court Administrator Harry Spence have announced their decisions on the 2012 Trial Court Excellence Awards, which were made in consultation with the departmental Chief Justices.

“As we contemplated this year’s awards, we appreciated that hundreds of employees across the Trial Court have taken extraordinary measures to deliver justice during the fiscal crisis” said Chief Justice Mulligan.  “We decided that we could not fairly single out the performance of individual employees.  We recognize that every department and division has demonstrated tremendous teamwork in the face of unprecedented staff and budget shortages.  The courts could not have functioned without the outstanding commitment and collaboration evidenced daily across the Trial Court.

“This year, we will focus recognition on team awards for special projects,” he said, “and present special recognition to Springfield court personnel for their survival and response to the extraordinary 2011 tornado which hit the Hall of Justice” 

The tornado tremendously affected all court employees and citizens who were in the two Springfield courthouses or were leaving as it struck at the end of the day.  The traumatic, widespread nature of the event, the response of court personnel to assist the public and each other, and to restore courts to business as usual in incredibly short order, all warrant a special acknowledgement by the Trial Court community.

Special projects being recognized are detailed below and include a MassCourts implementation award to the District Court “Super Users,” a Probation award to the trainers for the new ORAS risk/need assessment tool, a metrics award to the staff of the Sentencing Commission, and a Green Team award to the e-waste project implementation by OCC.

Chief Justice Mulligan and Court Administrator Spence will host the Excellence Awards event at the Worcester Trial Court on November 14th at 2:00 PM.
