The Massachusetts Judicial Branch

Massachusetts Appeals Court

Notice of Pilot Project

The Appeals Court has joined with the Supreme Judicial Court in a pilot project to receive submission of briefs and record appendices in electronic form, with a view to ultimately make them available to the bar and to the public.  Counsel are therefore invited to submit, in addition to the requisite number of briefs, appendices, transcripts, and exhibits required by Mass.R.A.P. 18(e)(1),(2),(3), and Mass.R.A.P. 19(b)(1),(2),(3), an electronic searchable PDF version of the brief (and record appendix if feasible) on a CD-ROM disk.  In the alternative,  counsel may submit a one-sided paper copy of the brief and the record appendix, both with white covers, temporarily held together with a clip or rubber band, but that is neither stapled nor otherwise bound, contains no dividers, bindings, nor tabs that require removal, and that can be readily scanned into the Court's electronic management system.
