RE: THE APPOINTMENT OF CHIEF
JUSTICE OF THE SUPERIOR COURT DEPARTMENT
September
10 , 2004
On
October 31, 2004, the five-year term of appointment of
Superior Court Chief Justice Suzanne V. DelVecchio will
expire.
Pursuant
to G.L. c. 211B, § 5, the Chief Justice for Administration
and Management is authorized to appoint the Chief Justice
of the Superior Court. G.L. c. 211B, § 5 provides
that judges of the Superior Court Department are eligible
for appointment as Chief Justice and the present Chief
Justice is eligible for reappointment.
As
part of the appointment process, I am soliciting written
comments from judges, court employees, attorneys, and
any other interested persons on the state of the Superior
Court, its priorities and accomplishments, the future
goals of the court, and the role of the Chief Justice
in the court's future. Applications and nominations
for the position of Chief Justice are also invited. All
correspondence should be sent to me by Monday, September
