Court Administrator Selection on Schedule

The search committee established by the Supreme Judicial Court to identify finalists for the new position of Court Administrator for the Trial Court is on schedule to allow the Court to select a candidate well in advance of the statutory requirement.

Court reorganization legislation passed in 2011, stipulates that appointment of this new position occur by July 1, 2012.  Last October, the Supreme Judicial Court announced its intent to appoint the Court Administrator in advance of the statutory date to ensure the effective assumption of responsibilities.

The search committee, chaired by Attorney Michael Keating, former chair of the Court Management Advisory Board, has met regularly since November and has coordinated its efforts with the experienced executive search firm Isaacson, Miller, which was retained to assist the committee.

“There is a large pool of applicants from both the public and private sectors and many strong candidates to consider,” said Attorney Keating.  “I am pleased with the progress the search committee has made and am confident that we will be able to present the Court with some excellent candidates.”

Approximately 125 candidates have expressed interest in the position.  Isaacson Miller and the search committee have conducted interviews, which will continue in February.  The search committee soon expects to select finalists who will meet with the Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court and various Trial Court leaders and representatives.

The Court Administrator, in consultation with the Chief Justice of the Trial Court, will oversee administrative functions to ensure that judges and court staff have modern, effective and efficient support systems.
