The Supreme Judicial Court is the leader of the Massachusetts court system. In addition to having final appellate authority over the decision of all lower courts, the SJC also exercises general superintendence authority over the administration of the entire Judiciary and the bar. The SJC makes or approves rules for the operations of all the courts, and it has varying degrees of oversight responsibility for entities affiliated with the Judicial Branch, including the Board of Bar Overseers, the Board of Bar Examiners, the Clients' Security Board and the Massachusetts Interest on Lawyers' Trust Accounts (IOLTA) Committee.
