A Message From Chief Justice Charles R. Johnson

The
Boston Municipal Court Department is committed to conducting
our operations in an environmentally responsible manner.
We see ourselves as a dynamic team where our environmental
stewardship leads to a world where all communities share
in clean air, clean water, sufficient open space and
wildlife species that are vibrant and thriving.
We
are pleased that the Trial Court has formed the Energy
Task Force and look forward to supporting this vital
endeavor. I would like to thank all of the many volunteers
who have chosen to serve as liaisons to the green team.
Your willingness to serve the courts and the environment
is commendable. I know that your limitless energy and
enthusiasm will ensure the success of this initiative
and inspire your fellow workers. Your spirit is infectious,
and soon you will be sharing your thoughts and ideas
on conservation with your coworkers, families and friends.
This synergy will yield great results!
Of
all the important work we do each day, perhaps this will
be the work you find most personally rewarding.
When
thinking about environmental responsibility, bigger ideas
necessarily aren’t better. There are many paths
to going “green.” I urge you to find creative
ways to make conservation, waste reduction and recycling
part of your life at work and at home. Turning off lights
when leaving the room, reusing scrap paper and riding
public transportation are but a few of countless simple
steps that we can take to minimize our impact on the
environment.
President
John F. Kennedy spoke of the “vulnerability of
our planet” and said that
| It is our task in our
time and in our generation to hand down undiminished
to those who come after us, as was handed down to
us by those who went before, the natural wealth and
beauty which is ours. |

Please
join with me in supporting the mission of the Energy
Task Force as we adopt environmentally-sound practices
in the Trial Court. It is my hope that one year from
now, each court in the Trial Court will be reducing waste,
operating with greater energy efficiency, and powered
by a green team that keeps environmental responsibility
at the forefront of our collective mind.
