Boston Municipal Court Department
Hosts Law Enforcement Officials from Mexico
The Boston Municipal Court Department recently hosted thirty-five area directors from the Secretaria de Seguridad Publica (SSP) along with staff members from the Fletcher School of Diplomacy at Tufts University. The officials were interested in learning about the American justice system, with a particular focus on oral trials. Mexico is in the process of implementing reforms under the Mérida Initiative with the United States, to enhance due process rights and provide more tools to combat organized crime.
The Honorable Robert Ronquillo, First Justice of the East Boston Division and the Honorable Franco GoBourne, Associate Justice addressed the visitors. BMCD Administrative Attorney Michael O'Loughlin, Suffolk County Assistant District Attorney Amy Martin and Attorney Rachel Self made presentations to the delegation regarding the American legal system.
The visitors observed several criminal court proceedings while at the Boston Municipal Court Department.
