GRAND JUROR
SERVICE

Please read the two scenarios below to determine which one applies to you.  Then follow the relevant instructions provided.

Unlike trial jurors who are brought into the courts of the Commonwealth each day of the week to begin their terms of trial juror service, most grand jury terms begin once every three months.  Therefore, you may only postpone grand juror service to either January, April, July, or October.   The specific date will be provided by the court and a notice will be issued as soon as the date for the convening of the grand jury in the month that you have selected becomes known.

Please note that the time within which you may postpone is limited to one year from the original summons date.  If the month you request is not available, the court reserves the right to reschedule your service to a time that meets its needs.

SCENARIO #1: If you are requesting a postponement and you have not yet mailed back your Juror Confirmation Form (the Form).  There is one option...

You may complete and mail the Juror Confirmation Form...

Step 1: Go to SECTION E on the Form (Page 3 at the bottom of your summons for juror service).

Step 2: In the four blue boxes provided, write in the date to which you wish to postpone you service as follows: "MMYY" where MM is the two-digit month number, (containing leading zeros if necessary), and YY is the two-digit year, (containing leading zeros if necessary.)  Example: If you want to postpone to the fictional date of January 2023, you would write the following in the blue boxes: 01   23.  You are not required to give a reason for requesting a postponement.

Step 3: Go to SECTION A and place an X in the blue box.

Step 4: Go to SECTION H, date and sign the Form.

Step 5: Mail the Form back to us (no stamp is required).
