TRIAL JUROR
SERVICE
Please read the two scenarios below to determine which one applies to you. Then follow the relevant instructions provided.
Remember: The time within which you may postpone is limited to one year from the date you were originally scheduled to appear. Please note that if the date you request is not available, the computer will assign you to serve on the first available business day after the date you requested. This is necessary in order to meet the needs of the courts. Ordinarily this date will fall very near the one you selected.
SCENARIO #1: If you are requesting a postponement and you have not yet mailed back your Juror Confirmation Form [the Form] (found on Page 3, of your Summons for Juror Service),. there is one option.
OPTION #1
You may complete and mail the Form...
Step 1: Go to SECTION E on the Form.
Click herefor instructions that include graphics.
Step 2: In the six blue boxes provided, write in the date to which you wish to postpone your service as follows: "MMDDYY" where MM is the two-digit month number, (containing leading zeros if necessary), DD is the two-digit date number, (containing leading zeros if necessary), and YY is the two-digit year, (containing leading zeros if necessary). Example: If you want to postpone to the fictional date of January 23, 1945, you would write the following in the blue boxes: 012345. You are not required to give a reason for requesting a postponement.
Step 3: Go to SECTION A and place an X in the blue box.
Step 4: Go to SECTION H, date and sign the Form.
Step 5: Mail the Juror Confirmation Form back to us (no stamp is required).
SCENARIO #2: If you are requesting a postponement and you do not have the Form, there are two options to choose from...
OPTION #1
You may call us from within Massachusetts...
Call 1-800-THE-JURY (1-800-843-5879) and speak with one of our schedulers. They are available Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m..
OPTION #2
You may write to us...
Step 1: On the letter you send us please make sure to include:
(1) your name;
(2) your Juror Identification Number, which is located above your name on any document sent to you by the Office of Jury Commissioner;
(3) your mailing address;
(4) the date you were originally scheduled to serve; and,
(5) the date you wish to postpone your service to.
Be sure to sign your request.
