Attorney Referral

Only Massachusetts licensed attorneys are permitted to represent persons and corporations in Massachusetts courts, except by special court order. Although individuals can choose to represent themselves ("pro se litigants"), most people are represented by attorneys who have a familiarity with the applicable rules, procedures and case law. Attorneys are subject to strict ethical requirements by the Board of Bar Overseers. This page provides referral access to prosecutors, public defense counsel and bar association and legal aid lawyer referral services through the Trial Court Law Libraries' portion of the web site.

This link provides access to many organizations that assist people with finding a lawyer or help people with specific legal and consumer assistance needs.
This link provides access to public defenders in criminal cases. Public defenders are appointed by court order for persons who are unable to afford an attorney.
