Supreme Judicial Court Justice Ralph D. Gants, a member of the Court's Standing Committee on Pro Bono Legal Services, will present the eleventh annual John Adams Pro Bono Publico Awards to four recipients in recognition of distinguished service and outstanding commitment in providing legal services for the poor and disadvantaged. The prestigious awards are named in honor of John Adams and John Quincy Adams. For the first time a recent law school graduate will receive a special student award this year. The following lawyers and a law firm have been selected by the Standing Committee to receive awards:

Susan Corcoran, Cambridge, for her outstanding pro bono work representing survivors of domestic violence at the Community Legal Services and Counseling Center in Cambridge;

Dorothy Varon, Springfield, for her successful achievements in developing a pro bono program at Mass Mutual Life Insurance Company, and for her leadership in encouraging pro bono activity in Springfield and expanding corporate counsel pro bono efforts across Massachusetts;

DLA Piper LLP, Boston, for their commitment and dedication to pro bono service through a partnership with the Massachusetts Advocates for Children on the Education Rights Signature Project and;

Steven Dzubak, Springfield, for his exceptional pro bono work on environmental legal issues while a student at Western New England University School of Law.

Certificates will also be presented to the 30 lawyers and law firms that voluntarily participated in the Court's Pro Bono Recognition Program Honor Roll. The recognition program each year honors law firms, solo practitioners, in-house corporate counsel offices, government legal offices, non-profit organizations and law school faculties that certify that their attorneys have dedicated a minimum number of hours to approved pro bono legal services during a specified time period.

Their names are listed on the Court's website at: Pro Bono Honor Roll
