Supreme Judicial Court Appoints New Executive Director

The Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court today announced the appointment of Thomas G. Ambrosino as the Executive Director of the Supreme Judicial Court.  Mr. Ambrosino will assume his new position on January 11, 2012.

As Executive Director, Mr. Ambrosino reports to the Chief Justice and Justices of the Court. He will implement the policies set by the Justices and direct the daily administration of the Supreme Judicial Court. The Executive Director will also assist the Justices with the implementation of recent court management reforms.

Mr. Ambrosino brings to the Court a breadth of management, legal, financial, and personnel experience in both the public and private sectors. From 2000 to the end of 2011, he served as the Mayor of the City of Revere where examples of his solid record of accomplishments include improving the city’s fiscal health by raising its bond rating and increasing the reserves, implementing a major capital improvement campaign, and negotiating and concluding multiple municipal collective bargaining agreements. His private sector experience includes five years as a sole practitioner in his law firm in Revere and nine years as a litigation associate at the law firm of Palmer & Dodge in Boston.

A native and current resident of Revere, Mr. Ambrosino is a cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School, and a summa cum laude graduate of Boston University.

His civic work since 2008 includes membership on the Executive Committee of the Metropolitan Area Planning Council and service as a Board member of the Massachusetts Afterschool Partnership, a non-profit organization which advocates for afterschool opportunities for Massachusetts public school children.

Chief Justice Roderick L. Ireland said, “Tom has outstanding skills and an impressive history in building broad-based support among diverse constituents.  The Justices look forward to working with him in the challenging years ahead.”

Mr. Ambrosino succeeds Clifford Allen, who has been the Acting Executive Director since July 1, 2011, and is the Reporter of Decisions for the appellate courts.
