Essex Probate and Family Court to Temporarily Relocate During Courthouse Renovation

Interim location at 45 Congress Street, Salem, Mass.

BOSTON, MA -- Trial Court Chief Justice Paula M. Carey and Trial Court Administrator Harry Spence today announced that the Essex Probate and Family Court currently operating at 36 Federal Street in Salem will relocate to an interim courthouse location at the Shetland Office Park at 45 Congress Street in Salem after the close of business on Friday, April 25, 2014.  

On Monday, April 28, 2014, court operations will begin at the interim Congress Street location, which has been leased and renovated for use during the renovation of the Federal Street courthouse, which will take approximately three years.

The Register of Probate will be located in the temporary courthouse space, as well as the Family Service Office, which is part of the Essex Probate and Family Court. The 36,000 square-foot facility has four courtrooms and two holding cells. There will also be a Safe and Secure Waiting Area for victims and witnesses.

The interim courthouse location has modern electronic security systems, HVAC systems, on-site parking and on-site access to public transportation. The MBTA bus service stops at Shetland Office Park’s main entrance.
