More than 125 members of the trial bar met with judges on May 29th at the George N. Covett Courthouse in Brockton for the first of five Open Dialogues on Court Practices. The second session will take place on June 17th at the Fenton Judicial Center in Lawrence.

The Brockton event was attended by Chief Justice for Administration & Management Robert Mulligan, all of the Trial Court Department Chief Justices and numerous judges, clerks, registers and court personnel.

Following welcoming remarks from Brockton District Court First Justice David Nagle, Chief Justice Mulligan and Plymouth County Bar President David Reservitz the attendees participated in breakout groups according to court practice area. The District Court, Housing Court, Juvenile Court, Land Court, Probate and Family Court and Superior Court met separately with lawyers to engage in a dialogue on case management and practice in each of these court departments. The sessions were insightful and gave lawyers and judges an opportunity to discuss each others’ challenges.

Over the past several years, the Trial Court has introduced changes in court management practices to make the courts more effective and accountable. This statewide series of meetings with the bar was initiated by the Trial Court to seek input on the success of those management changes and to explore ways to work together with the courts to continue to improve court operation. Participants provided positive reaction to the court and the bar associations regarding the event.

The additional Open Dialogues on Court Practices, which are sponsored by the Massachusetts Trial Court, the Court Management Advisory Board, the Massachusetts Bar Association, and county bar associations, are scheduled for:
