Report on Open Dialogues Issued
Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice Margaret
H. Marshall and Chief Justice for Administration & Management
Robert A. Mulligan have issued a report on the actions
taken as a result of last year’s Open Dialogues on
Court Practices with the following joint statement:
“We are pleased to share the results
of a major outreach effort conducted last year by the Massachusetts
Trial Court in collaboration with the Massachusetts Bar
Association and local bar associations.
We greatly appreciate the outstanding response
of the judges, attorneys and court staff who ensured the
success of the Open Dialogues on Court Practices through
their attendance and participation in the five regional
sessions held last year. More than 1,000 attorneys supported
this important statewide program, which was also co-sponsored
by the Court Management Advisory Board. In another significant
outreach effort last year, the Trial Court implemented
an Access and Fairness survey, which was completed by more
than 9,000 court users in every courthouse across the state.
These initiatives to obtain public comment
on court practices represent a critical component of court
management reform. The qualitative and quantitative data
received enable continuous improvement in court operations
which impact thousands of people daily.
As a result of the dynamic Open Dialogues co-moderated by judges and attorneys across all court departments,
the Trial Court compiled the attached summary of follow-up
actions being implemented. Our partnership with the Massachusetts
Bar Association and local bar associations has been instrumental
on such efforts to provide accountability and transparency
to court management improvement.”
