MASSACHUSETTS COURTS FINALIZE MORE THAN 200 ADOPTIONS
IN CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL ADOPTION DAY
In
celebration of the fourth annual National Adoption Day
in Massachusetts, hundreds of families and their friends
participated in festivities at courthouses statewide
on November 17 to celebrate the adoptions of 204 foster
children from the Department of Social Services. Juvenile
and Probate and Family Court Judges performed adoptions
in eight cities across the Commonwealth: Boston, Brockton,
Cambridge, Greenfield, Pittsfield, Salem, Springfield,
and Worcester.
The
Massachusetts Trial Court, in cooperation with the Massachusetts
Adoption Resource Exchange and the Massachusetts Department
of Social Services, assists in the organization of statewide
events to encourage families to adopt children out of
the foster care system and give them loving and caring
homes. This year all fifty states, the District of Columbia,
and Puerto Rico participated in National Adoption Day,
and judges finalized more than 4,000 adoptions.
