RELOCATES FROM CAMBRIDGE TO MEDFORD
Chief
Justice for Administration and Management Robert A. Mulligan
today announced that the Third District Court of Middlesex
County, currently located in the Edward J. Sullivan Courthouse
in Cambridge, will move to a new court facility on the
Mystic Valley Parkway in Medford after the close of business
on February 20, 2009, and open for business at this new
site on Monday, February 23, 2009.
Approximately
70 court personnel will occupy the renovated 56,000 square-foot,
one-story building, which the Trial Court has leased
for five years. The facility provides three courtrooms
with sound amplification and digital audio recording
capabilities, two jury deliberation rooms, and 12 holding
cells. The building also provides modern security and
HVAC systems, record storage space, and on-site parking.
The
courthouse includes office space for staff of the Middlesex
District Attorney's Office and the Court Clinic, as well
as space designated for victims/witnesses, bar advocates
and police prosecutors.
Individuals
seeking domestic violence restraining orders will continue
to be served in the District Court at its new location
in Medford. Domestic violence restraining order relief
continues to be available at the Middlesex Probate and
Family Courthouse at 208 Cambridge Street in Cambridge.
As
of March 23, 2009, public transportation to the relocated
district court is available from Lechmere Station by
taking the Green Line inbound to North Station and changing
there to board the Orange Line to Wellington Station
where Bus #134c will provide transportation to the corner
of Commercial Street and Mystic Valley Parkway near the
courthouse entrance.

District Court Department is composed of 62 Divisions
with 158 judges across the Commonwealth. The Massachusetts
Trial Court includes seven court departments with 378
judges who deliver justice to thousands of citizens daily
in 106 courthouses across the state.
