The Massachusetts Trial Court will mark the opening of the newly-built J. Michael Ruane Judicial Center at a special event for employees, local officials, and area residents. Lt. Governor Timothy Murray and Supreme Court Justice Robert Cordy are among the speakers in the program hosted by Chief Justice for Administration & Management Robert A. Mulligan. Reverend Louis Bourgeois of St. James Parish will give the invocation and Reverend Dr. Renee P. Keels of the First Baptist Church will offer the benediction.
The Essex County Superior Court, Salem District Court, and the Essex County Juvenile Court, and the Northeast Housing Court began operations in the new court building in December. The Essex County Law Library, is located in the historic, former First Baptist Church building of the complex. The spacious new courthouse features eleven courtrooms, modern information technology and digital recording capability, handicapped accessibility, and secure detention areas, a jury pool and the District Attorney’s Office.
The 195,000 square-foot judicial center was designed by Goody Clancy Architects and constructed by Daniel O’Connell’s Sons under the direction of the Massachusetts Division of Capital Asset Management and the Massachusetts Trial Court.
