Search Committee Selects Two Court Administrator Candidates

The Search Committee appointed by the Supreme Judicial Court to recommend candidates for the position of Court Administrator announced today that it had selected two persons from the pool of candidates who applied for the position to proceed to further interviews. The candidates are Christopher A. Fox and Harry Spence.

The Chairman of the Search Committee, Michael Keating, stated, “We had a large pool of well qualified candidates who applied for the position.  From those, we selected eight highly qualified candidates for Search Committee interviews. The two candidates that we have selected from those we interviewed will proceed to further interviews with various constituencies, including Chief Justices and senior court managers, within the judicial system.”

Christopher Fox is the former Deputy Chief Operating Officer for the City of Boston and Chief of the Bureau of Administration and Technology for the Boston Police Department.   Harry Spence formerly served as the Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Social Services, Deputy Chancellor for Operations for the New York City Board of Education and Receiver for the City of Chelsea.

The Court Administrator, in consultation with the Chief Justice of the Trial Court, will oversee administrative functions to ensure that judges and court staff have modern, effective and efficient support systems.

After the upcoming interviews, the Search Committee will conclude this final phase of the selection process and forward its recommendations to the Supreme Judicial Court by March 30, 2012.  Court reorganization legislation passed in 2011 stipulates that appointment of this new position occur by July 1, 2012.
