Chief Justice for Administration and Management Robert A. Mulligan today announced that the Middlesex County Superior Court, currently located in the Edward J. Sullivan Courthouse in Cambridge, will move to a new court facility in Woburn in the TradeCenter on Sylvan Road, beginning on Friday, March 14, 2008. The court will be open for business at this new site on Monday, March 17, 2008.

            Approximately 180 court personnel will occupy the newly-built 140,000 square-foot, seven-story building, which the Trial Court has leased for five years. The facility provides 15 courtrooms with sound amplification and some with digital audio recording capabilities, 15 jury deliberation rooms, and 22 holding cells with separate areas for men and women. The building also provides modern security and HVAC systems, record storage space, and ample parking.

            The final phase of the move will relocate the Middlesex Law Library to the Woburn facility by this spring. The courthouse also includes office space for staff of the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and the Committee for Public Counsel Services, as well as space designated for victims/witnesses and bar advocates.

            Relocation of the Cambridge District Court from the Sullivan courthouse will occur through an RFP process now underway at the Massachusetts Division of Capital Asset Management.

            The new mailing address for the Middlesex Superior Court is 200 TradeCenter, Woburn, MA 01801. The main telephone number is 781-939-2700. The administrative fax number for the Clerk-Magistrate’s office is 781-939-0872, and the fax number for the Probation Department is 781-939-0951. The MBTA has added a stop to Bus Route 134 on Sylvan Road at the front building of the three-building TradeCenter complex.

            The Superior Court Department is composed of 14 Divisions with 82 judges across the Commonwealth. The Massachusetts Trial Court includes seven court departments with 378 judges who deliver justice in 106 courthouses across the state. Comprehensive management reform is underway throughout the Trial Court to increase efficiency, accountability and transparency, as it serves thousands of citizens daily.
