| The
seven Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court will hear
oral arguments in five cases on appeal in Barnstable Superior
Court. The Court
previously held a sitting in Barnstable on May 6, 1996.
The Barnstable sitting is part of
the Supreme Judicial Court’s continuing outreach to
communities outside Boston where the Court generally
holds its sittings. Teachers and students from the Barnstable
area have been invited to attend. The session is open
to all.
Established in 1692, the Supreme
Judicial Court, the state’s highest court, is the oldest
appellate court in continuous existence in the Western
Hemisphere. It operates under the oldest written constitution
in the world.
