SUPREME JUDICIAL COURT TO HOLD SITTING IN BARNSTABLE
ON TUESDAY, APRIL 2;
Public Welcome to Attend Appellate Court Session
 

What: The seven Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court will hear oral arguments in five cases on appeal in Barnstable Superior Court.  The Court previously held a sitting in Barnstable on May 6, 1996.

The Barnstable sitting is part of the Supreme Judicial Court’s continuing outreach to communities outside Boston where the Court generally holds its sittings. Teachers and students from the Barnstable area have been invited to attend. The session is open to all.

Established in 1692, the Supreme Judicial Court, the state’s highest court, is the oldest appellate court in continuous existence in the Western Hemisphere.  It operates under the oldest written constitution in the world.

Barnstable Superior Court
Main Street, Barnstable

 

Note: Oral arguments for each case take approximately thirty minutes.  Seating is on a first come, first served basis. A separate courtroom equipped with a television monitor will be available for an overflow audience. The SJC Rule for cameras in the courtroom will apply. Interested media representatives should contact the Public Information Office in advance.
