New Elderhostel and Freedom
Trail Program Features
John Adams Courthouse as Learning Center
Sixteen
senior adults spent this morning at the John Adams Courthouse
learning about the life of John Adams and his role in
authoring the Massachusetts Constitution in 1779 and
defending British soldiers following the Boston Massacre. "A
Day of Discovery," a new Elderhostel program in
conjunction with the Freedom Trail Foundation, debuted
today in the John Adams Courthouse. Accompanied by a
costumed "Abigail Adams," one of the Freedom
Trail Players, the group first met with Appeals Court
Justice Mark Green who provided an orientation to the
judicial system and engaged the guests in a question
and answer dialogue.
"Abigail
Adams" then presented a lively historical account
of John Adams's life with additional commentary
by Barbara Berenson, Supreme Judicial Court attorney,
who answered questions from the group. A docent from
Discovering Justice provided a courthouse tour. In the
afternoon, the group visited the State House to continue
their educational field trip.
The
new Elderhostel and Freedom Trail Foundation program
at the John Adams Courthouse is offered to seniors on
scheduled days throughout the spring.
