JUSTICE FOR ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT
TO ADMINISTER OATH OF OFFICE TO
THE HONORABLE MANUEL KYRIAKAKIS
AS NEW CHIEF JUSTICE OF THE HOUSING COURT
Boston—Chief
Justice for Administration and Management Barbara A. Dortch-Okara
will administer the oath of office to the Honorable
Manuel Kyriakakis as the new Chief Justice of the Housing
Court Department of the Trial Court on Tuesday, June 11, 2002
at 4:00 p.m. The swearing-in ceremony and a reception will
be held at the Venus de Milo restaurant in Swansea.
Judge Kyriakakis, presently the First Justice of the Southeastern
Housing Court, will serve as Chief Justice of the Housing
Court for a five-year term, in accordance
with G.L. c.211B, §5. He will assume his new duties on June
17, 2002 in the Edward W. Brooke Courthouse in Boston. Judge
Kyriakakis succeeds Chief Justice E. George Daher, who will
retire on June 16, 2002, upon reaching the mandatory retirement
age for judges of seventy.
A resident of South Dartmouth, Judge Kyriakakis was appointed
as First Justice of the Southeastern Housing Court in 1990
when the Southeastern Housing Court was established. From
1973 until his appointment to the Court, he was a partner
in the Fall River law firm of Horvitz & Horvitz &
Kyriakakis. He began his law career as an associate at that
firm in 1967.
