SUPREME
JUDICIAL COURT JUSTICE JOHN M. GREANEY
PRESENTS CLIENTS’ SECURITY BOARD’S WILLIAM J. LEDOUX AWARD
TO NEWTON ATTORNEY JERRY COHEN
Boston--Supreme Judicial Court
Justice John M. Greaney today presented the Clients’ Security
Board’s William J. LeDoux Award to Newton Attorney Jerry
Cohen during a ceremony in the Courtroom of the Supreme Judicial
Court. The LeDoux Award is given annually by the Clients’ Security
Board in recognition of an attorney’s extraordinary effort
in helping a client recover significant financial losses
resulting from the misuse of funds by an attorney. Mr. Cohen,
a partner of the Boston Law firm of Perkins, Smith and Cohen,
LLP, served as a pro bono custodian to help the family
of a child manage a fund of $200,000 awarded to the child
by the Clients’ Security Board. Mr. Cohen is the sixth attorney
to win the LeDoux Award, named in honor of the late William
J. LeDoux, who served on the Clients’ Security Board from
1987 to 1997, including seven years as Chairman.
The
Clients’ Security Board, established by the Supreme Judicial
Court in 1974, uses a portion of the annual registration
fees paid by attorneys to the Board of Bar Overseers to
reimburse clients who have been victimized by instances
of attorney misappropriations.
