EIGHTEEN TRIAL COURT EMPLOYEES HONORED
FOR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE;
Employee of the Year is Court Officer in Springfield

Boston, MA- In recognition of their outstanding service to the courts and to the public, Chief Justice for Administration and Management Barbara A. Dortch-Okara today honored the 2002 Trial Court Employee of the Year and the seventeen recipients of the 2002 Trial Court Employee Excellence Awards at the Rebecca Johnson School in Springfield. The theme for this year's awards was "Unsung Heroes."

The Trial Court Employee of the Year is Phyllis Ainsworth-Okamura, Assistant Chief Court Officer at the Springfield Hall of Justice, where she has worked since 1999. Ms. Ainsworth-Okamura performed life-saving cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a litigant last year, and helped develop emergency procedures for the Springfield District Court Medical Response Team. In addition to supervising 18 court officers, she oversees the Springfield District Court holding area, and conducts security training for court officers. Officer Ainsworth-Okamura began her career with the Trial Court in 1993 as a Court Officer at Hampshire Probate and Family Court.

Chief Justice Dortch-Okara said, "Officer Ainsworth-Okamura richly deserves this honor because of her exemplary professionalism and excellent administrative skills, and for her willingness to go beyond the call of duty to help judges, fellow employees, and members of the public. All the award recipients, these unsung heroes, nominated by their colleagues merit this special honor for their selfless work and dedication."

A thirteen-member committee selected seventeen employees from more than 100 nominations for the Employee Excellence Awards. (See attached list.)

Since 1987, the Administrative Office of the Trial Court has honored Trial Court employees with the annual awards for their outstanding job performance and commitment to public service.
