SUPREME JUDICIAL COURT AND APPEALS COURT TO MOVE TO INTERIM LOCATIONS DURING COURTHOUSE RENOVATION

Boston--The Supreme Judicial Court and the Appeals Court will relocate in July to office buildings close to their present headquarters in the Suffolk County Courthouse to accommodate the renovation of the Suffolk County Courthouse (high-rise) for later occupancy by the Suffolk County Superior Court. The new locations will be temporary homes for about a year.

The Supreme Judicial Court will move on Friday, July 18, 2003 to One Beacon Street, third floor.  The SJC Clerk’s Office for Suffolk County will occupy part of the fourth floor; the SJC Clerk’s Office for the Commonwealth will be located on the third floor.  The Court will be open for business in its temporary location on Monday, July 21. Court hearings will continue to be held in the Suffolk Courthouse until March 2004.  All telephone and fax numbers will remain the same.

The Appeals Court will move on Friday, July 25, 2003 to the Center Plaza office complex and will be open for business on Monday, July 28.  The Appeals Court will occupy Three Center Plaza, seventh floor, with ancillary offices in One and Two Center Plaza. Court sessions will continue to be held in the Appeals Court Courtroom on the tenth floor of the Suffolk County Courthouse until further notice.  Telephone and fax numbers will remain the same.

The Social Law Library, located on the twelfth floor of the Suffolk County Courthouse, will remain in the building during the renovations.

In 2004, the Supreme Judicial Court, the Appeals Court, and the Social Law Library will permanently move into the historic John Adams Courthouse, located next to the Suffolk County Courthouse, when the renovations are completed.

Renovations to the Suffolk County Courthouse will begin in August, 2003, to be ready for the temporary relocation of the Suffolk Superior Court in January 2005, when the court’s lease expires at the John W. McCormack Courthouse.
