Supreme Judicial Court Justices Appoint New Member to Committee on
Professional Responsibility for Clerks of the Courts


          The Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court recently appointed Framingham District Court Clerk-Magistrate Thomas J. Begley to the Committee on Professional Responsibility for Clerks of the Courts for a five-year term, ending on April 23, 2011. Mr. Begley fills the position formerly held by Dedham District Court Clerk-Magistrate Salvatore Paterna, whose term has expired.

           Established by SJC Rule 3:13, the five-member Committee on Professional Responsibility for Clerks of the Courts investigates complaints against elected and appointed clerks relative to alleged violations of the Code of Professional Responsibility for Clerks of the Courts.

          Mr. Begley has been Clerk-Magistrate of the Framingham District Court since 2002, after serving as Acting Clerk-Magistrate for two years. He also served as First Assistant Clerk-Magistrate in Cambridge District Court for twenty years and as Assistant Clerk-Magistrate in Waltham District Court for five years. From 1978 to 1980, he was a Regional District Court Administrator for the Middlesex-Essex region. Mr. Begley is a member of the National Association of Court Management, and chairs the Educational Grant Committee of the Association of Magistrates and Assistant Clerks of the District, Juvenile, Housing, and Boston Municipal Courts of the Trial Court. He holds an M.A. degree in Public Management and a B.S. degree from the University of Massachusetts.
