Supreme Judicial Court Appoints New Executive Director
of Board of Bar Examiners
The Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court today announced the appointment of Marilyn J. Wellington as Executive Director of the Board of Bar Examiners. She fills the position held by Elaine Vietri, who retired earlier this year. The appointment is effective on September 1, 2010.
The five-member Board of Bar Examiners is responsible for the examination and review of qualifications of all persons seeking admission to the Massachusetts Bar.
Ms. Wellington's duties will include assisting the members of the Board in their functions in the bar admission process, including administering the bar examinations, determining eligibility for admission to the bar, and conducting investigations and hearings with respect to character and fitness. She is also responsible for the supervision of the office of the Board, the preparation and maintenance of records, and coordination with the Clerk of the Supreme Judicial Court for Suffolk County.
Ms. Wellington has experience in public and non-profit management, including serving as Executive Director of the Massachusetts Bar Association, Court Administrator at the Boston Municipal Court Department, Chief of Staff of the Administrative Office of the Trial Court, and consultant for the National Center for State Courts.
A resident of Nahant, Ms. Wellington graduated from Emmanuel College and New England Law – Boston.
