Plymouth,
MA—Celebrating the start of a new
Plymouth Trial Court being constructed on
Obery Street in Plymouth, judicial branch
leaders, legislators, state and local officials
joined with the community in a groundbreaking
ceremony on September 23, 2004.
Breaking
new ground at the site (from left) are: Supreme
Judicial Court Chief Justice Margaret H.
Marshall; Plymouth District Court First Justice
Thomas F. Brownell; Chief Justice for Administration
and Management Robert A. Mulligan; State
Representative Vinny M. deMacedo; State Senator
Therese Murray; State Representative Thomas
J. O'Brien; Division of Capital Asset Management
Commissioner David B. Perini; and Secretary
of Administration and Finance Eric A. Kriss.
"I
look forward with great anticipation to the
opening of the new Plymouth Trial Court,
a modern center of justice in an historic
community," said Chief Justice Marshall. "Judges,
lawyers, court staff, and the community they
serve deserve, and will now have, a beautiful,
well-designed courthouse of which they can
be proud."
"This
state of the art courthouse will provide
a safe, accessible environment for the citizens
of Plymouth County who come to the courts
seeking justice. I am very pleased that five trial court departments will be located
in the same facility, resulting in a sharing
of resources and a more expeditious and timely
delivery of justice," said Chief Justice
Mulligan.
The
three-story, modern, handicapped accessible
courthouse will house the Plymouth District
Court, Plymouth Juvenile Court, Plymouth
Probate and Family Court, Plymouth Superior
Court, and the Southeast Housing Court. Scheduled for completion in 2007, the courthouse will contain
nine courtrooms, a law library, hearing rooms,
a detention area, and ample public space.
