The South
Boston Courthouse will be renamed the Chief Justice
Joseph F. Feeney Courthouse in a special ceremony
at the courthouse. The late Chief Justice Feeney
was Chief Justice of the Boston Municipal Court from
1986 to 1988. His distinguished career as a judge
spans more than 30 years, including many years in
South Boston, the neighborhood where he grew up.
He was Chief Secretary and Special Counsel to Speaker
of the House of Representatives John W. McCormack
from 1946 to 1972.
An Act designating the South Boston Courthouse
as the Chief Justice Joseph F. Feeney Courthouse
was approved on May 19, 2006. It was sponsored
by State Representative Brian P. Wallace and State
Senator John A. Hart.
