In an effort
to create a unified and coordinated governmental
and community-based plan to address the proliferation
of illicit drugs, substance abuse, and related criminal
activity, the Boston Municipal Court led by Chief
Justice Charles R. Johnson, and State Representative
Eugene O'Flaherty, House Chair of the Judiciary Committee,
are jointly hosting a drug symposium with representatives
of the judiciary, the bar, criminal justice system, and public health
departments.
This forum is the first in a series of collaborative
roundtable discussions to focus attention on the
drug epidemic problem plaguing Massachusetts, and
particularly Suffolk County. The goal is to develop
a unified agenda to thwart the spiraling cycle of
drug addiction and criminal behavior associated with
substance abuse and to protect neighborhoods and
communities from its destructive influence.
