PORTRAIT OF
HONORABLE EDWARD W. BROOKE
UNVEILED AT BROOKE COURTHOUSE
Boston, MA-
Former United States Senator
and former Masssachusetts Attorney General Edward W. Brooke
graciously addressed the audience of judges, lawyers, legislators,
family and friends at Boston’s Edward W. Brooke Courthouse,
which is named in his honor, and thanked them for helping
him to celebrate the unveiling of his portrait on his birthday,
Saturday, October 26, 2002. The portrait, a gift from his
wife, Anne, to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, now hangs
in the atrium area of the Brooke Courthouse.
Supreme
Judicial Court Chief Justice Margaret H. Marshall, one of
the featured speakers at the event, said in her tribute to
Senator Brooke that “he is a man of many notable achievements:
as a highly decorated military officer, an aggressive attorney
general, an effective senator, a wise statesman, and now a
generous private citizen.” She said his “noble career has
been distinguished by an unwavering commitment to the rule
of law and all it stands for: fairness, equality, justice,
opportunity, and respect for the dignity of every human being.”
