Appoints Attorney David J. Martel to Commission on Judicial Conduct
Chief Justice for Administration and Management Robert A. Mulligan today announced the appointment of Attorney David J. Martel of Longmeadow to the Commission on Judicial Conduct, effective on November 1, 2006. The term will expire on October 31, 2012.
The Commission on Judicial Conduct, established in 1978, investigates allegations of misconduct by state judges. According to G.L.c. 211, §1, three judges are appointed by the Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court; three attorneys are appointed by the Chief Justice for Administration and Management of the Trial Court; and three lay persons are appointed by the Governor to six-year terms.
Mr. Martel has been an attorney at Doherty, Wallace, Pillsbury and Murphy, P.C. in Springfield since 1981. Previously, he practiced law at Robinson & Dibble in Springfield for seven years. He began his legal career at a New York City law firm, Donovan, Leisure, Newton and Irvine, in 1972.
Active in civic and legal affairs,
Mr. Martel is Town Counsel in Longmeadow, Ludlow, and Hampden.
He is a Clerk and Member of the Executive Committee of the
Affiliated Chambers of Commerce of Greater Springfield, and
a Trustee and former President of the Springfield Public
Forum, among others. Mr. Martel is a Director and former
President of the Hampden County Bar Association and a member
of the Massachusetts Bar Association.
A
resident of Longmeadow, Mr. Martel received a J.D. from Catholic
University Law School, where he was a member of Law Review, and
an A.B. from the College of the Holy Cross.
