JUVENILE COURT AND PROBATE AND FAMILY COURT JUDGES
LEGALIZE 177 ADOPTIONS ON NATIONAL ADOPTION DAY
Boston,
MA -- In celebration of National Adoption Day, Juvenile
Court and Probate and Family Court judges finalized the adoption
of 177 children from foster care by Massachusetts families on Friday, November 19. This is the second year the Massachusetts
Trial Court, in cooperation with the Massachusetts Adoption
Resource Exchange and the Massachusetts Department of Social
Services, has helped to organize a statewide celebration
to encourage families to adopt children in need of loving
homes.
Festivities and special events celebrating the adoptions and honoring the families were held at the Suffolk Juvenile Court and the Suffolk Probate and Family Court in Boston, the Brockton Juvenile Court and the Plymouth Probate and Family Court in Brockton, the Franklin/Hampshire Juvenile Court in Northampton, the Essex Juvenile Court in Salem, and the Hampden Juvenile Court in Springfield.
Speaking at a ceremony at the Edward W. Brooke Courthouse in Boston, Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice Margaret H. Marshall said, “Adoption opens new worlds of possibility for each adoptive child and each adoptive parent. Adoption affirms the dignity and worth of every human being and speaks to our core belief that the welfare of children is vital to a healthy democracy.”
Courts across the country participated in National Adoption Day with judges legalizing more than 3,100 adoptions nationwide.
