MASSACHUSETTS COURTS
LEGALIZE MORE THAN 200 ADOPTIONS
ON FIFTH NATIONAL ADOPTION DAY
Hundreds
of families and their friends gathered together at
courthouses throughout the Commonwealth on November
16 to celebrate the adoptions of 227 foster children
from the Department of Social Services. Juvenile and
Probate and Family Court judges finalized adoptions
in eight cities statewide: Boston, Brockton, Cambridge,
Greenfield, Pittsfield, Salem, Springfield, and Worcester.
Court staff organized many activities, such as storytelling,
musical entertainment, and arts and crafts, for the
children and their families. Special guests included
legislators, television personalities, and local celebrities
who helped to welcome the new families.
The Massachusetts
Trial Court, in cooperation with the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange
and the Massachusetts Department of Social Services, assists each year in the
organization of events across the state to encourage families to adopt children
out of the foster care system and give them loving and caring homes. Courts in
all fifty states participated in National Adoption Day this year, and judges
performed more than 3,300 adoptions nationwide.
