SUPREME
JUDICIAL COURT APPOINTS NEW MEMBER
TO CLIENTS’
SECURITY BOARD
Boston—The Justices
of the Supreme Judicial Court today announced the appointment
of Attorney Peter H. Sutton of Weston to the Clients’ Security
Board, effective immediately. He fills the position formerly held by Attorney
Mark I. Berson, whose term recently expired. Mr. Sutton will serve a five-year term, which will expire on October
1, 2005.
Mr. Sutton is senior
partner in the Boston law firm of Riemer & Braunstein
LLP, which he joined in 1973. For the past twenty years, he has been chairperson
of the firm’s Litigation Department. Prior to his affiliation with Riemer & Braunstein, he was chief
law clerk for the Superior Court.
He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Boston University
with an A.B. degree, and he received a J.D. from Boston University
School of Law. In 1998, Mr. Sutton became the first recipient
of the Clients’ Security Board’s William J. LeDoux Award,
which is presented annually to an attorney who demonstrates
extraordinary efforts representing a client, free of charge,
before the Board. A co-founder of the Hellenic Bar Association,
Mr. Sutton is active in numerous civic and charitable organizations.
Established by the SJC in 1974, the Clients’ Security Board
is comprised of seven attorneys.
They oversee the disbursement of funds to clients who
have been victimized by attorney defalcation.
Massachusetts is one of only three states which fully
reimburse clients victimized by attorney misappropriations.
These awards are funded through registration fees assessed
against lawyers in the Commonwealth.
