New
Plymouth Trial Court Marks Construction Milestone
with Topping-Off Ceremony
In
a Topping Off Ceremony held on November 30 at the new
Plymouth Trial Court on Obery Street in Plymouth, Chief
Justice for Administration and Management Robert A. Mulligan
thanked the tradespeople for their hard work as they
reached the half-way mark in the construction of the
new courthouse.
Celebrating
this important construction milestone with Chief Justice
Mulligan were Senator Therese Murray, Division of Capital
Asset Management Commissioner David B. Perini, and Daniel
P. McConaghy, Senior Vice President and Regional Manager
of the Gilbane Building Company.
The
189,000 square-foot Plymouth Trial Court facility will
house the District, Housing, Juvenile, Probate and Family,
and Superior Courts, a law library, and the District
Attorney’s Office. It is scheduled for completion
in July of 2007.
An
ancient Scandinavian tradition, a topping-off ceremony
is held when a construction project’s last structural
beam is put into position. Before hoisting the steel
beam into place, all of the workers sign it, and an evergreen
tree symbolizing respect for the land is placed on top.
