Commissioner of Probation to Honor Probation Employees at Third Probation Employee Recognition Ceremony at the Statehouse

Massachusetts Commissioner of Probation John J. O'Brien will honor one line probation officer and one support staff employee from each of the 14 counties throughout the Commonwealth at a Statehouse ceremony scheduled for Friday, April 1.

"Probation Officers make a real difference in the lives of offenders, their families and the residents of the communities where the offenders live. P.O.'s are integral members of law enforcement and social service teams who work together to improve the lives of offenders while enhancing public safety," said Commissioner O'Brien. "Support staff employees are important members of our team. The support staff serves as the foundation of a well run probation department."

Chief Probation Officers may nominate an employee to be considered for the award. Nomination forms are available in the Communications Department of the Office of the Commissioner of Probation. The deadline for nomination forms is February 14th.

Commissioner O'Brien decided in 2001 to establish an annual ceremony during which the "unsung heroes" of the agency would be recognized for their outstanding work in the community and for their efforts within the agency.

"The recipients of the Probation Employee Recognition Award have distinguished themselves as employees who go beyond the call of duty and who provide exemplary service to the public, the court and to individuals placed under the charge of the probation department," O'Brien said.
