Probation
Commissioner Announces New Appointments
The Office of the Commissioner of Probation
would like to announce the recent appointments of the
First Deputy Commissioner and the Deputy Commissioner,
Legal Counsel.
Probation Commissioner John J. O'Brien
appointed Elizabeth V. Tavares First Deputy Commissioner
and Christopher J. Bulger Deputy Commissioner, Legal
Counsel.
"First Deputy Commissioner Liz Tavares
and Deputy Commissioner Chris Bulger are dedicated employees
of the Massachusetts Probation Service who bring years
of professional experience and a strong work ethic to
their new positions," said Commissioner John J. O'Brien.
Elizabeth V. Tavares, former Second Deputy Commissioner, is a 28-year employee
who began her probation career as a Probation Officer at Taunton District
Court. Tavares later served as Taunton District Court Assistant Chief Probation
Officer; Chief Probation Officer assigned to Field Services in the Office
of the Commissioner of Probation; Associate Legal Counsel to the Commissioner
of Probation; and Deputy Commissioner of the Programs Division.
Christopher Bulger, Deputy Commissioner – Legal Counsel, has worked in
the Legal Department in the Office of the Commissioner of Probation for the
past decade. He held the position of Deputy Legal Counsel prior to his appointment
as Deputy Commissioner-Legal Counsel. Before his employment with the Commissioner's
Office, Bulger served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Norfolk County
District Attorney's Office.
