The Office of the Commissioner of Probation would like to announce the recent appointments of the First Deputy Commissioner and the Deputy Commissioner, Legal Counsel.

Probation Commissioner John J. O'Brien appointed Elizabeth V. Tavares First Deputy Commissioner and Christopher J. Bulger Deputy Commissioner, Legal Counsel.

"First Deputy Commissioner Liz Tavares and Deputy Commissioner Chris Bulger are dedicated employees of the Massachusetts Probation Service who bring years of professional experience and a strong work ethic to their new positions," said Commissioner John J. O'Brien.

Elizabeth V. Tavares, former Second Deputy Commissioner, is a 28-year employee who began her probation career as a Probation Officer at Taunton District Court. Tavares later served as Taunton District Court Assistant Chief Probation Officer; Chief Probation Officer assigned to Field Services in the Office of the Commissioner of Probation; Associate Legal Counsel to the Commissioner of Probation; and Deputy Commissioner of the Programs Division.

Christopher Bulger, Deputy Commissioner – Legal Counsel, has worked in the Legal Department in the Office of the Commissioner of Probation for the past decade. He held the position of Deputy Legal Counsel prior to his appointment as Deputy Commissioner-Legal Counsel. Before his employment with the Commissioner's Office, Bulger served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office.
