Four of Probation's Most Wanted Have been Nabbed Thanks to Tips

Four of Probation’s Most Wanted Have been Nabbed

A fourth offender, one of nine featured on the Massachusetts Probation Service’s statewide Most Wanted List, was apprehended on Monday morning in Florida thanks to tips from the public.

The four Probation Violators were apprehended less than a week after the list was released. This was the agency’s first statewide Most Wanted list.

Fugitive from Justice John Brine of Roslindale, 41, was nabbed in Maine less than 24 hours following the release of the List. Several days later, Samuel Nelson of Dorchester was arrested at a Boston subway station. Today, police in Claremont, Florida nabbed Daniel Sullivan of Lynn. Massachusetts State Police and Florida officials confirmed today that another Probation violator, James Locklear formerly of Holbrook, was found in Miami.

Brine, wanted by Boston Municipal Court-West Roxbury, was arrested without incident in the Kennebunk, Maine area on April 20th, by Massachusetts State Police with assistance from Maine State Police. Brine’s offenses included assault and battery--victim over 60; Class B distribution, larceny and ID fraud.

Nelson was nabbed on Friday, April 22nd, at the Andrew train station where he and his companion were stopped by MBTA Police when they were caught evading the fare. Nelson was being sought by Suffolk Superior Court for armed robbery and home invasion.

On Monday, April 25th, Daniel Sullivan, 28, was arrested at a home in Clermont, Florida. Sullivan was wanted by Lynn District Court for possession of firearms.

Probation officials also received information today on the whereabouts of Locklear, 54. Locklear, wanted by Norfolk Superior Court, was convicted of harming the child of a live-in girlfriend. His offenses included rape of a child and indecent assault and battery.

“Thanks to the tips we received on our Tip Line, we were able to locate and apprehend this very dangerous individual. Probation holds offenders accountable for their actions,” said Chief Probation Officer Joseph Jackson who helped coordinate this effort. “We want to encourage the general public to keep phoning in their tips on the whereabouts of the men featured on the Most Wanted list or any probationer you know to be in default.”

The majority of the offenders have violent histories. Their offenses range from rape of a child to kidnapping to home invasion and intimidation of a witness. Offenders on the list have been charged with armed assault and drug and firearms charges. One offender has a 10-page record of offenses. Another offender is being sought by three separate courts.

“Those offenders who receive an opportunity to serve a sentence in the community through probation must understand that they will be held fully accountable for their actions. In those cases where they disregard the conditions of probation, we will use all the means available to us to bring them to justice. We want to thank the Massachusetts State Police as well as the many police departments across the Commonwealth and law enforcement in Florida who offered vital assistance to us in this effort," said Probation Commissioner Ronald P. Corbett Jr.
