2008 PROBATION EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION AWARD HONOREES
ARE FETED AT STATEHOUSE CEREMONY

More than 200 people attended the sixth Annual Probation Employee Recognition Awards Ceremony at the State House on Friday. The event also featured the presentation of the second annual Kevin Duggan Community Service Award.

The 2008 Probation Awards Ceremony marked the first time that honorees were chosen by their colleagues as the nomination process was open to all Massachusetts Trial Court employees to select a Probation employee for this award. Award recipients were nominated by judges, support staff personnel, probation officers, assistant chief probation officers and clerk magistrates. In the past, only chief probation officers nominated employees for the award.

Probation Officer II’s dominated the 2008 Probation Awards. Among the 22 honorees were seven probation officer II’s, six probation officers; three associate probation officers; two support staff employees; two assistant chief probation officers; and two first assistant chief probation officers.

The seven probation officer II award recipients are Ralph Pena Jr., Orleans District Court; Donelle M. Gomes, Fall River District Court; Sharon Crowley, Haverhill District Court; Barry Sullivan, Hingham District Court; Kevin Brennan, Boston Municipal Court (BMC)-West Roxbury; Steve Koenig, Norfolk County Superior Court; and John Christopher, BMC-Dorchester.

Six probation officers were honored. The probation officer honorees were Clifford Flynn, Southern Berkshire County District Court; Sandra Adams, Attleboro District Court; Kerrin Costello, Essex County Juvenile Court; Linda Singer, Franklin County Probate & Family Court; Christopher Gray, Plymouth County Juvenile Court; and Edwin Welch, Middlesex County Probate & Family Court.

The three associate probation officers who received recognition were Leanne Potter, Barnstable County Juvenile Court-Plymouth site; John Mandragouras, Ipswich District Court; and Laura Garrant, Hampshire Probate & Family Court.

Lynn McGovern, a probation officer manager at Attleboro District Court, and Erica Vicente, a probation case coordinator at Middlesex County Juvenile Court-Cambridge site, were the support staff honorees.

The assistant chief probation officer award recipients were Peter Kotch of Franklin/ Hampshire Juvenile Court and William Wickman of Dedham District Court.

Anh Vu of BMC- West Roxbury and Steven K. McKeown of Worcester County Juvenile Court, both first assistant chief probation officers, were also honored at the ceremony.

The recipient of the Kevin Duggan Community Service Award was William D. Gale, Berkshire County Juvenile Court Chief Probation Officer.
