One of Most Wanted Tracked to Louisiana
Another one of Probation's nine "Most Wanted" offenders was apprehended recently. This time, the offender was nabbed in Louisiana.
This latest apprehension brings the tally to six of nine offenders who have been picked up since the Massachusetts Probation Service issued its first statewide list this spring. Marcus Parks, 26, was placed under arrest on Friday, June 24th, by the U.S. Marshals Service in Bernice, Louisiana thanks to the investigative work of the Massachusetts State Police who collaborated with Probation. Parks was taken into custody without incident.
Parks, formerly of Springfield, was wanted by Hampden Superior Court in Massachusetts for armed robbery, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, operating with a suspended license, and refusing to identify himself as the operator of a motor vehicle. Parks, who absconded when he failed to meet with his Probation Officer in July 2008, was also wanted by Springfield District Court. He is currently being held in a Farmville, Louisiana jail.
"We want to thank the public and the Massachusetts State Police for assisting Probation in the apprehension of the probation violators featured on our very first statewide Most Wanted list," said Chief Probation Officer Joseph Jackson Jr. "Probation is very pleased with this effort to remove dangerous individuals from the community. We would like to encourage the public to continue phoning in tips. I would also like to recognize the Massachusetts State Police and U.S. Marshals Service for their great work and collaboration as well as express our appreciation to the local police in Louisiana for their help with this apprehension."
Jackson said Probation's release of its first statewide list has been hugely successful thanks to tips from the public, the work of the Massachusetts State Police, and Probation.
When the list was first posted in April, four of the nine probation violators were apprehended in less than a week. One offender, Fugitive from Justice John Brine, was nabbed in less than 24 hours following the release of the list. Brine, 41 and of Roslindale, was nabbed in Maine. He was wanted by Boston Municipal Court (BMC) for possession to distribute Class B and assault and battery.
Several days later, Samuel Nelson of Dorchester—wanted by Suffolk Superior Court for armed robbery and home invasion—was arrested at a Boston subway station. Police in Claremont, Florida nabbed Daniel Sullivan of Lynn—wanted by Lynn District Court for possession of firearms without a permit. Another probation violator featured on the list, James Locklear formerly of Holbrook, was located in Miami.
Only three offenders featured on the list remain at large. They are Rubenson Cherilus, 27, who was last seen in Somerville, is being sought by three different courts; Oscar Guillermo Colon, 31, formerly of Boston, is wanted by Suffolk Superior Court; and Jose Angel Garcia, 33, is wanted by Hampshire Superior Court.
Cherilus is wanted for possession of firearms and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon by Boston Municipal Court (BMC)-South Boston. Middlesex Superior, Suffolk Superior and Somerville District Court are also looking for him for two counts of possession to distribute Class B drugs, indecent exposure, and failure to stop for police. He is five feet, nine inches tall and 185 pounds. Cherilus has brown hair and brow eyes.
Colon is wanted for home invasion, armed robbery, and witness intimidation by Suffolk Superior Court. He was charged with forcing his way into his victim's home, placing a gun to her 16-year-old son's head, demanding money, stating, "If you don't give me your money, I'll kill you and your kids." Colon is six feet, three inches tall and 240 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. Colon's last known address was in Boston.
Garcia is being sought by Hampshire Superior Court. Armed burglary, armed assault in a dwelling, and two counts of armed robbery are his offenses. Garcia is five feet-six inches tall, has brown hair, and brown eyes. His last known address was in Amherst.
