PARLIAMENT LEADER VISITS SUFFOLK JUVENILE
PROBATION DEPARTMENT
Fadime Orgu, a member of the Parliament of
the Netherlands, visited with Suffolk Juvenile Court Chief
Probation Officer Steven Siciliano to learn about court-involved
youth in America.
Orgu's visit to Boston is part of a
six-city tour of the United States arranged by the Department
of State's International Visitor Leadership Program.
She has also visited Little Rock, Arkansas; Seattle, Washington;
Washington, D.C.; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and New York
City.
During her Boston visit, Orgu said she was
impressed with the Massachusetts Juvenile Probation System
and the programs available for troubled youth and children
who are the victims of abuse. She was particularly interested
in children from immigrant communities.
"I came here because I wanted to see
how people work with youngsters and to see the different
things that are going on," Orgu said.
As a member of Parliament, the People's
Party for Democracy, Orgu serves as party spokesperson
for juvenile crime, youth policy, childcare and ethnic
entrepreneurship. She is also a member of the Parliamentary
Committees for Integration, Social Affairs and Employment
as well as Health, Welfare and Sports.
