ROXBURY PROBATION OFFICER REMOVES FIREARM FROM STREET
During a recent Operation NightLight patrol
through a Jamaica Plain neighborhood, Brad McNichols, a
Probation Officer at Boston Municipal Court (BMC)-West
Roxbury, and members of the Boston Police Department’s
Gang Unit recovered a firearm stashed in a paperbag near
a group standing around a makeshift memorial for a recent
murder victim.
The Intratec 25 Caliber handgun was found
alongside a building in a housing development police and
McNichols responded to following reports of gun shots during
their weekly visits to homes and neighborhoods where probationers
reside.
“We were in what is considered to be
a ‘hot spot’ on a NightLight visit when the
call came in. When we responded to the call, we found a
group of young men around a memorial for a young man who
was recently killed,” McNichols said. “We were
talking to several young men when the gun was discovered.
The police took everyone’s fingerprints.”
McNichols said there was an “active
gang dispute” between young men in the group and
rival gang members.
“It was good to take this firearm off
the very street where another young man had been killed,” he
said.
