Chief Justice Rouse Honored by Boston

J. Rouse recently received the Haskell Cohn Distinguished
Judicial Service Award from the Boston Bar Association
for exemplifying “the very best of the judiciary,
epitomizing the spirit of public service and a deep
commitment to the fair and efficient administration
of justice.”
In presenting the award, BBA President
Anthony M. Doniger noted that “with a rare combination
of intellect and integrity and the ability to make
tough choices, Chief Justice Rouse has worked to change
the culture of the bar to appreciate the value of active
case management. At the same time, she has demonstrated
a willingness to listen, giving unstintingly of her
time to meet regularly with judges and lawyers throughout
the Commonwealth.”
Haskell Cohn was a prominent Boston lawyer
and former BBA President who felt strongly about diversity
in the legal profession and cared deeply about the
quality of the judiciary. He served as chair of the
Joint Bar Committee, providing counsel in the judicial
screening and selection process. The Haskell Cohn award
was established in 1975 in honor of the 50th anniversary
of his admission to the bar.
Judges who have won the award in recent
years for service on the Massachusetts Trial Court
include Hon. Paul Chernoff, Hon. Allan van Gestel,
Hon. Margot Botsford, Hon. Robert Mulligan, Hon Isaac
Borenstein and Hon. James McHugh.
